The Flemish Primitives amazes with 5 world premieres
Flanders Taste Foundation | On Monday 8 February, Brugge was the culinary heart of the world for one day. During the second edition of The Flemish Primitives over 50 of the world’s top chefs and scientists took the stage of the Concertgebouw and presented their latest discoveries and inventions.
In the centre of attention this year were 5 totally new, never before used technologies to assist chefs in their kitchens. “This is the core idea of Flanders Taste Foundation,” says Bernard Lahousse. “We want to be the link between chefs, companies and research institutions. We have one goal in mind: to create innovations, keeping in mind the essence of the kitchen: taste.”
Absolutely Phenomenal
Over 1.200 people attended the second edition of the event. Reactions were very positive. Organiser Will Blunt of Star Chefs New York said that The Flemish Primitives create groundbreaking work and Flemish chef Jeroen Meus called what he saw absolutely phenomenal.
Unique Collaborations
Peter Monbailleu, event producer confirms: "It’s amazing to see all these chefs collaborate. The former generation of chefs was pretty much closed and on their own. This new generation of chefs thrives on cooperation and friendship. That is the strength of this event."
The Flemish Primitives Community
Also launched yesterday is the online community web site: www.theflemishprimitives.com. The web site has 2 parts: one for the general public and one exclusive for the chefs. The chefs’ part will be a knowledge and research center for gastronomy. The public part will include exclusive content on new developments, new restaurants, etc. It will also offer the members unique advantages offered by chefs and partners of The Flemish Primitives.
The Flemish Primitives 10 – The Book
Just like for the 2009 edition, a book will be created reflecting on the unique day that was experienced. The book is expected to be ready in 2 or 3 months. Every participant will receive the book. It will also be available in bookstores.
