Apparently social media and food mix well…

Antoon Vanderstraeten | During the past 5 years I’ve been blogging, twittering and facebooking. Social media has become a second nature. I met loads of new people, some who use twitter and facebook for fun, others make a living of it. What we all have in common is our online presence…. Or so I thought.

Apparently I myself and my social media friends and collegues also enjoy a good meal. On most of the social media events you do not only have the chance to listen to a guru, online hero or influencer and meet some of your online contacts, but you also have the chance to enjoy great food. The past years I organized the Blogbecue’s, starting as a BBQ with some online friends in my backyard, the event quickly grew to a smashing gathering with 2 giant BBQs and over 60 people. The fact that the last edition, the Midwinter Blogbecue happened in the freezing cold, didn’t bother, we kept each other warm. BBQ is a popular concept, and so not only I organized a few, also @C_Concepts invited loads of people for his Eat&Tweet-BBQ, and several smaller gatherings around hot charcoal and sizzling meat took place. About twice a month, @bnox organizes the Brussels Girl Geek Dinners, an informal gathering of geeky girl or girly geeks. Sometimes men are also allowed, being it as a “handbag” for the ladies. The occasions I had the chance to accompany a geeky girl to a BGGD-event, I heard several times the same thing: “Yeah, great presentation, I loved her shoes and….. oooooh there’s the food!” From small sandwiches to abstract combinations of mouthwatering slices of heaven, from a standard coke or orange juice up to champagne, delicious wines or colourfull cocktails, a BGGD-event combines interesting presentations with great food. In between the bigger events, I frequently meet up with other online people on twunches (lunch with twitter people), have a drink on Jong Tuig (Young Scum) or a Twooze (although I didn’t quite make it yet to Antwerp for one of those meetups).

Social Media and food mix well, that is pretty clear. Monday is the 2nd edition of the Flemish Primitives. Defining the Belgian Gastronomy. I love Social Media, I love food…. I am soo looking forward to this event!

I couldn't agree more! 10. February 2010 - 13:33

Social media and food do mix well!!! We have proved it by inviting 2 Leffe fans who twittered throughout the event to share the experience with all the others who could not join. It was great fun for Jacques and Ivan, and opportunity for others to 'taste what's cooking on Flemish Primitives!
